2011 News A HUGE Congratulations to Lee Crews who was promoted to 2nd Dan at the recent black belt grading. Fairwater School of Taekwon-do demonstrated their skills over the Summer at a demonstration at the Lllandaff City Church in Wales Primary School Summer Fayre. Welcome to our new Taekwon-do baby! Our Fairwater School of Taekwon-do is now 1 person bigger with the arrival of a new future student. Freya Elizabeth Prescott was born to Liz Prescott (1st Kup) and her husband, James, on Monday 7th June. Weighing in at 6lbs 15 ozs we suspect she will be in the lightweight category for sparring! Grading Results 16/06/10: Congratulations to the following students on their recent promotions - Owen O'Connell (8th Kup), Alex Duffin (5th Kup), Megan Williams (3rd Kup) and Carolina Oprea (2nd Kup). Keep up the good work! Welsh Open Championships (16/05/10): Eight students from the Fairwater School of Taekwon-do attended this year's Welsh Open held at the very successful UWIC venue. Success at the English Open! A few students from Fairwater School of Taekwon-do travelled to Crawley last weekend for the English Open. Congratulations to all who entered and well done to George Crews (Gold in Sparring and Bronze in Patterns); Kane Collins (Gold in Special Technique); Sharon Collins (Silver in sparring) and Daniel Anderson (Silver in Patterns and Bronze in Sparring). On 30th April a number of students successfully graded at the Fairwater School of Taekwon-do. Congratulations to them for achieving 5 medals between them - we are so proud! On Sunday 22nd March colour belts and black belts alike were treated to the teaching of Master Gary Miller VII. Master Miller emphasised the point that, like on the Playstation, if you don't practise and perfect the skills required for each level you cannot proceed and, if you don't save new skills and concepts when you learn them, you will not improve. A lesson that all students, young and old, could well do with remembering. He also focussed on correct kicking techniques to ensure that, when the time comes, those boards will break! CONGRATULATIONS go to Callum Hole and Flynn Woodward for their promotions at the seminar/grading with Master Miller VII. Keep up the hard work! One of our most successful senior students, Sophie Collins, is currently studying in Russia and demonstrating her skills to the Russians. In recent competitions in St Petersburg, Sophie managed to win silver medals in patterns and a bronze and a silver medal in sparring. A superb achievement! Well done Soph! 2008 saw Senior Master Prewett's 30th year as an instructor. We celebrated this great achievement at the Awards evening with a special celebratory cake complete with marzipan man in dobok! Here's to the next 30 years! Training has now resumed. We hope that everyone will train regularly so that our school can go from strength to strength in 2009. At the ITF Wales Awards evening Lee Crews and Megan Williams received their Student of the Year awards. In the Grand Prix overalls Sharon Collins and Kane Collins came 2nd and Bethan Pezzack came 1st, while Sophie Collins received the Masters Shield in the over 18s category. Her Mum, Sharon Collins, collected the award for her as she is now studying for a year in Russia. Good Luck Soph! Enjoy it and WORK HARD! |
