Seminar
and Grading - A
very informative and enjoyable seminar was led by our own Master
Michael Prewett VII in December at the Heath Leisure Centre. We
studied the correct use of the Sine Wave and practised correct set
sparring. Congratulations to Kane Collins for his promotion at
the grading.ITF Wales Award Ceremony 2005 - As always, we all had great fun at the Award Ceremony this year. There was plenty of dancing, a raffle and a children's fancy dress competition. More importantly, the end of year awards decided upon by the ITF Wales instructors and the Grand Prix overall winners received their impressive trophies from this year's sponsor Mr Tony MacWhirter from MacWhirter (Air Conditioning) Ltd Successful students from Fairwater were George Crews (Grand Prix 3rd place u13), Kane Collins (Junior Student of the Year) and Liz Prescott (Senior Student of the Year) Congratulations to them. Master Michael Prewett paid tribute to Master John Taylor for his excellent work as British coach, while Master John Taylor thanked all the parents who support their children and ITF Wales so regularly. Their contribution is invaluable. British Open, Sheffield 2005 - A fantastic day was had by all the ITF Wales team who attended this year's British Open. The competitors from Fairwater did us proud, as usual. Congratulations go to... Sophie Collins, 13-17 II Dan patterns SILVER Lee Burridge Ben Miller u13 black belt patterns BRONZE; sparring SILVER George Crews u13 blue/red +146 sparring SILVER Delme Pezzack u13 blue/red +146 sparring GOLD Kane Collins u13 blue patterns GOLD; -135 sparring SILVER Myles Salley Irish Open, Dublin 2005 - Congratulations go to our two superstars Kane and Sophie Collins who competed in the Irish Open this year. Kane won a silver medal in his patterns category while Sophie reached 4th place. In the sparring Kane reached the quarter finals, losing to a much larger and more experienced opponent while Sophie, to everyone's surprise, was also defeated in the quarter finals. Great fun was had by all! Grand Prix III - The Fairwater team kept up their winning ways at the final part of the Grand Prix series. In the -13 events Bethan Pezzack achieved a gold in sparring and a bronze in patterns; Kane Collins achieved a silver in sparring; George Crews achieved a gold in patterns and a bronze in sparring; Delme Pezzack achieved a gold in sparring and a bronze in patterns. In the 13-17 events both Myles Salley and Ffion Jenkins achieved silver in sparring. In the 18+ events Rob Miller achieved a silver in sparring and Liz Prescott achieved a silver in sparring and a bronze in patterns. A special mention goes to Scott Roberts and Ryan Lawrence who competed for the first time; we hope it will be the first of many competitions, well done! We hope you are both very happy. xxx Slovenian Open Presidential Cup - Some of our Fairwater students travelled all the way to Slovenia last weekend to take part in a competition. Congratulations go to Kane Collins (silver in patterns and sparring), Bethan Pezzack (gold in patterns, silver in sparring), Sophie Collins (silver in sparring) and Delme Pezzack for an excellent effort in both patterns and sparring. A big WELL DONE goes to all the ITF students who took part. Welsh Open 2005 - Congratulations to all the students from Fairwater who entered this year's Welsh Open at Cogan Leisure Centre. Every student who entered won a medal and contributed to the team achieving third place overall with 29 points. We think our successes may have had something to do with our show of solidarity...our blue hair!!! (See Gallery for evidence) Our Ely friends did brilliantly too achieving second place. Grand Prix 2005 - The latest rankings show that in the Under 13s category we have George Crews 5th, Delme Pezzack 8th, Kane Collins 9th and Bethan Pezzack 10th. In the over 18s category, Liz Prescott is 11th and Alex Marks is 25th. See the full list of rankings on Ely school's website here. London Open - Congratulations to all our students who competed in this event. Patterns: In the Blue belt category Bethan Pezzack won gold and Kane Collins took bronze. Delme Pezzack made it through to the quarter finals. In the Red belt category George Crews picked up silver. Ben Miller went out in the quarter final against the silver medalist - a good perfomance in his first black belt competition. Lee Burridge, also in his first black belt competition, made it to the quarter final in the 13-17 division. Sparring: In the under 13 -135 division Kane Collins won silver and Bethan Pezzack won bronze in the blue belt category. In -146 Delme Pezzack deservedly won gold against some tough opposition. In the red section George Crews fought well to go to the semi final but was unable to overcome his opponent there and had to settle for bronze. Finally in the black belt section Ben Miller stepped up to his first black belt competition and performed well but was unable to best his opponent this time. World Championships, Australia - Mr Wayne Brookes I has achieved a bronze medal in sparring and Mr Dean Matthews IV a silver in patterns. Congratulations to both of them from all of us at Fairwater. Seminar and Grading - An excellent seminar was led by Master O'Neill VII at the Heath Leisure Centre on July 11th. The session was reported to be extremely informative by all who attended. Congratulations go to four of our Junior members who completed successful gradings on that day: Matthew Lawson (now 9th Kup) Ieuan Eccles (now 6th Kup) Scott Roberts (now 5th Kup) Rhys Pranicard (now 5th Kup) Skittles Night Fundraiser - This was a successful night raising over £400 to help Dean and Wayne with their trip to Australia for the World Championships. Good luck to them! Scottish Open - Congratulations to Sophie and Kane Collins for both winning a gold medal in their sparring categories. Grand Prix II April 2005 Eastern Leisure Centre - Congratulations to all the students who took part in this very successful tournament. Great fun was had by all. Seminar/Grading March 2005, Heath Hospital Sports Hall - More than fifty students from all the colour belt range turned up for this seminar which was led by Master John Taylor VII and assisted by Mr Dean Matthews IV and Mr Darren Johns II. Congratulations to Lee Burridge and Ben Miller for gaining their black belts at the Black Belt Grading in March. |
